La Jolla is undoubtedly a gem of a city, full of fun activities and places to explore. Whether you’re briefly in town or a San Diego native, we’re excited to share some favorite spots in our neighborhood. Grab a coffee from Café 477 and hit the road!
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
If La Jolla was defined by one place, it would definitely be Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Torrey Pines is one of the most popular sights in the area, and for a valid reason. There’s no better spot to observe San Diego’s natural beauty than here! This is the perfect location to get in a nice workout, while admiring local wildlife and gorgeous ocean views. There are multiple trails, ranging from easy to moderate difficulty levels. Don’t forget to swing by Café 477 for a coffee and pastry to fuel your hike. And afterwards, you can head down to the beach and soak up the sun!

La Jolla Cove
La Jolla Cove features one of the most beautiful beaches in San Diego! Characterized by picturesque bluffs and bright blue waters, it’s a wonderful place to spend a warm afternoon. Hang out on the beach, walk along the sidewalk, observe the tide pools brimming with wildlife, or explore the ocean by snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, or scuba diving. La Jolla Cove is home to many species of local marine life, from sea lions to dolphins and everything in between. A highly recommended experience if you’re in the area – and make sure to pay a visit to Bobboi Gelato while you’re there.
Bobboi Gelato
This post wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Bobboi! Right in the center of La Jolla Cove, this is arguably the sweetest spot in all of San Diego. I personally treasure memories of my family frequenting this shop with the Cassars, deciding from their wide variety of flavors and enjoying every spoonful of their delicious, organic offerings. And, what pairs better with coffee than gelato? You might just have to bring along a couple shots of espresso from Café 477 to craft a delightful affogato!

Soledad Natural Park
Mt. Soledad is actually a Veterans Memorial, honorarily paying tribute to military members. This park, however, also provides the most stunning 360-views of La Jolla. It is perfect to visit any time of day, but for years, my family has had the tradition of driving up Mt. Soledad to watch the sunrise on our birthdays – and it’s spectacular. After an early morning, drive over to Café 477 to caffeinate the rest of your day!
Birch Aquarium
Are you a fan of all things marine life? If so, then Scripps’ Birch Aquarium is for you! Here, you can encounter a vast variety of ocean animals, such as Loggerhead Sea Turtles or Little Blue Penguins. Additionally, the exhibits are exceptionally interesting and educational for all ages. Before you leave, explore the Gift Shop to purchase a souvenir while supporting the aquarium’s mission! For easy access, purchase tickets online.
Westfield UTC
Westfield UTC is one of the most exemplary shopping destinations in San Diego County. Be prepared to spend hours here after being energized by your coffee! The options are endless: shopping, entertainment, dining, and more. Swing by retail stores such as Allbirds, Lululemon, and Nordstrom – to name just a few. It’s also a great place to meet up with friends, whether you want to go ice skating at UTC Ice or see a movie at AMC. Before you leave, grab dinner at one of UTC’s many delicious restaurants. Two of my personal favorites are True Food Kitchen (the edamame dumplings are a must-try) and Tocaya Organica (the Fajita Bowl is incredible)!
